The ‘paperless office’ has been around as a concept for at least twenty years. It has never become a reality, and we seem to have more paper now than ever before, printing on average a staggering 12,000 pages per person per year in the office. This is not just a huge cost for most businesses, but a huge environmental issue. And storing the vast amounts of paper and files takes an estimated 15 to 17% of floor space in many buildings. But much is now changing as digital technology and new innovations begin to challenge the situation and introduce the potential for the ‘less paper office’.
